GCSE Physical Education
What qualification will this course lead to?
GCSE in Physical Education (Edexcel)
What topics will I study?
You will study theory & practical aspects of PE.
A Healthy Active lifestyle, A Healthy Active body
How to play the sport, How to coach the sport, How to officiate the sport, How to get fitter through the sport.
What understanding and skills will I develop?
You will learn what makes a healthy lifestyle and how your body is affected by exercise, diet and lifestyle. You will also learn how to improve your technique in many sports and also you will be given the chance to coach, to referee and to understand how to get fitter, through playing your sports.
How will I be assessed?
The course is divided up into 2 parts: Assessment of playing, coaching or leading = 62% Assessment of understanding of a healthy, active lifestyle = 32% with a written exam.
What can this course lead to?
The GCSE allows pupils to continue to study PE & Sport at College (from 16 to 18 years of age) and then at University (from 18 to 21 years of age) towards a range of careers in teaching and education, but also GCSE PE will allow access to careers such as:
Teaching in schools, universities, colleges.
Sports coaching
Physiotherapy
Paramedic
