GCSE Sociology

What qualification will this course lead to?

GCSE in Sociology (AQA)

What topics will I study?

You will study 4 units in total each for six months. You will have to complete all units within 2 years. During the course you will study a wide range of topics such as crime and deviance, mass media in society, education, families, power and social inequality. Each of these topics is looked at from various viewpoints using up to date case studies.

What understanding and skills will I develop?

Through this course, you will develop understanding of the interdependence between individuals, groups, institutions and societies and encourages an understanding of the nature and significance of cooperation and conflict, and continuity and change, including individual and social differences in the students' own and other societies.

How will I be assessed?

This course is assessed through two written exams Paper 1 and Paper 2 at the end of the two years.

What can this course lead to?

Sociology provides a solid foundation for those looking to study A-Level Sociology and makes a valuable contribution to Citizenship, Personal Social and Health Education (PSHE), programmes and the development of students' transferable study skills.
