12/7/13: season round-up

Collegiate High School All Stars

Collegiate staff ended top of the division, having not moved since March - this was due to circumstances beyond St Mary's control leaving them unable to field a team for the remainder of the season.

The lack of games has allowed the Collegiate staff to form a bonding as they have been joined by members of Bispham High School squad for several recent training sessions, hopefully this will bode well for the future of the team.

As great as the divisional win and training sessions have been, they have become bitter sweet as Mr Schofield and Mr Kelly have been lured away from Collegiate - Mr Kelly is leaving on a free transfer and Mr Schofield for an undisclosed fee. When interviewed both said they are leaving for "footballing reasons".

The science duo were presented with top of the range footballs signed by the rest of the Collegiate High School All Stars team at their testimonial match on Friday. They will be greatly missed next season, but the team are resilient and are now preparing for pre-season friendly matches.

8/3/13: Collegiate 18 - 7 St Mary's

Back to a more settled squad this week, and this time with the added bonus of Mr Ryder joining the attack, Collegiate recorded their second win of the campaign in comfortable fashion, over a much changed St Mary's squad.

Employing a passing game, Collegiate moved the ball freely around the pitch using the width to maximum effect, noteably with Miss Roydes and Miss Mountjoy playing up the right wing and whipping in some devastating crosses. Commanding the defence, Mr Barnhurst was allowed the freedom to spread some great passes up the left wing for Mr Merrick and through the middle for Mr Kelly to take advantage of.

The win took Collegiate back to the top of the table on goal difference.

1/3/13: Collegiate 12 - 15 St Mary's

Collegiate fielded a much changed squad due to injuries and other commitments, and this showed as the home team tried to settle into the game despite the unfamiliarity of the squad. It was St Mary's that quickly eased into a comfortable three goal lead early in the game, and from that point on Collegiate were always chasing a win they would never get.

Out played for much of the game, keeping the score to a respectable three goal gap was all that Collegiate could do.

1/2/13: Collegiate 12 - 13 St Mary's

On a Friday afternoon that was in stark contrast to the previous week's blizzard weather, Collegiate's team remained mainly unchanged.

In another eagerly fought game St Mary's managed to snatch victory in the dying moments: Mr Kelly came close to scoring with a long range effort, only for the keeper to parry the ball away and instigate a counter attack which yeilded the winning goal.

25/1/13: Collegiate 7 - 6 St Mary's

Severe weather conditions made the pitch treacherous under foot, with both teams trying to play free-flowing football in the snow. Collegiate's man of the match, Mr Errington, somehow managed to perform many dazzling runs, while those around him were concentrating on staying upright. After an hour of intense play with the scores locked at 6-6, Mr Sheldon managed to grab the winner with a low drive into the bottom left, drawing to a close an enjoyable encounter.

Collegiate team: Mr Kelly, Mr Errington, Miss Mountjoy, Mr Sheldon, Mr Merrick, Mr Barnhurst, Miss Roydes, Mr Gillibrand, and Mr Newsham.
